Your next typeface
A space to shape something uniquely yours.
Click a node, Shift-click to add, or drag a selection box. Arrow keys nudge; Shift moves 10 units.
This tab’s contour, anchor and component clipboard is empty.
Copy whole open or closed contours with every node, handle and point flag, plus explicitly selected anchors. Guides and partial node selections make Copy, Cut and Duplicate unavailable. Stored in this tab’s memory until reload; your system clipboard is untouched. Choose a glyph or typeface, then Paste to preview there. Paste and Duplicate use +20 X/Y and keep anchor names; Paste in Place keeps coordinates. Alt/Option-drag duplicates selected contours and anchors at the dragged offset and adds .copy to anchor names; any selected point or guide makes it a normal move. Release to save; Escape cancels. Use Duplicate and Transform coordinates as a keyboard alternative. Saved open paths block font generation.

Components
Live references to glyphs in this typeface. Editing a base changes every dependent composite. Components inherit outlines only; their base’s anchors, guides and advance width stay separate.
Select a component, including an empty instance, to edit its matrix.
The inspector edits the last selected component. Shift-click a list item to add it to a mixed selection. Matrix changes preview locally; Apply saves once. Decompose turns this instance into editable contours. Point, Knife and Combine actions require explicit decomposition first.
Smart parts
Live shapes from the MAIN catalog, including diacritic shapes. Add previews at the last canvas cursor, or the glyph’s advance-width center on the baseline. This ASCII typeface has no shared combining-mark glyphs.
Select a smart part to inspect its current DNA values and matrix.
The inspector edits the last selected part. Shift-click a list item for mixed selection. DNA shows current resolved values and retains any dormant local override. Uncheck DNA to restore that override or freeze the current value. Changes preview locally; Apply saves once and Cancel restores the saved source.
Expand freezes this instance’s current generated contours for Point, Knife or Combine. Parts own no anchors. Mirrors preserve filled shapes and counters. Copy/Paste keeps live parameters and resolves inherited values against the destination’s DNA. Local overrides: dimensions 1–4096, roundness 0–100%, angle −20–20°; matrices ±100, translations and final points ±8192. Up to 32 parts per glyph / 400 per typeface.
Projects and Undo history containing smart parts need an M22-compatible engine. Deleting or expanding current parts does not convert saved history. Source download contains the current state, not images or complete Undo history.
Anchors & guides
Anchor names can affect font positioning. Names use an optional leading underscore, then an ASCII letter and letters, digits, underscore, dot or hyphen. Numbered base suffixes are _1–_16; mark anchors cannot be numbered. Guides are saved in project source only. Editing either makes this whole glyph manual: Design DNA keeps own contours frozen; smart parts and live procedural bases can still change. Reset glyph discards its manual edits. Up to 16 anchors and 32 guides, within ±8192 units.
Select one item to edit. Shift-click a list item to add it to a contour or point selection. Anchors use Nodes on the canvas; guides can be selected with Nodes while visible. Hiding guides deselects them and removes canvas hits. Hidden guides still snap.
Point
Open at Node needs one on-curve node on a closed contour and opens its full perimeter there. Join needs two endpoints on different open contours; Shift-click their first or last nodes. It previews a straight bridge. Split Open splits one incoming open segment at its midpoint, preserving the curve. A start node has no incoming segment. Saved open paths block font generation. Line/Bézier conversion marks the destination Corner. Smooth sets a flag; move handles to align them.
Contour
Close needs one open contour with at least 3 anchors and adds a straight closing segment. Reverse preserves open or closed path geometry. Duplicate above the canvas offsets by 20 units in X and Y. Correct Direction, Combine and Knife require closed contours.
Order
Front and Back keep selected contours in their current order. Forward and Backward require one contour. Order also chooses the base for Subtract Front.
Align & distribute
Align two or more selected contours, anchors or components. Own contour bounds include handles; component bounds follow visible curves. Distribute three or more centers evenly, keeping the outermost centers fixed. Guides are excluded. Structural point mixtures cannot be arranged. Review, then Apply.
Combine
Select at least two contours. Subtract keeps the first contour in font order and subtracts the others, regardless of click order.
Select a saved glyph to fit its advance.
Uses the rightmost point of the current editable own contours and resolved smart parts, plus half this source’s stroke. Curve handles count; this is not exact curve-bound fitting. Still-live components are excluded. Geometry already resolved into own contours counts as own. Saving a procedural glyph’s width makes its current editable drawing manual, as ordinary width Save does. Only this source’s advance is fitted.
